Overview
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.
Responsibilities
Under supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform specialized, skilled work in the operation of heavy and complex computerized construction / commercial equipment; the inspection and maintenance of equipment; and the preparation and maintenance of records and reports on the operation of equipment and assigned trucks. Engages in the technical work of operating a special television truck camera to observe, record, and / or photograph the interior of sanitary drain mains and identify cleaning problems, structural failures and / or embedment problems. Employees in this class are responsible for safely and efficiently operating the complex computerized construction equipment owned by Jefferson Parish; and is responsible for the minor maintenance and servicing of the equipment. Employees in this class normally supervise a crew consisting of helpers and apprentice operators. Employees receive both general and specific assignments from superiors, who inspect the work in progress and upon completion, but employees are expected to perform with little or no supervision; using judgment and initiative to accomplish desired objectives. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
Qualifications
Minimum age of 18 years and possession of a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record; PLUS, meets ONE of the following :
Substitution : Active certification in the pipeline assessment program by the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) may substitute for two (2) months of the required experience or training.
NOTE : Proof of applicable education, certification, and licensure should be submitted with application. A valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable; however, once an offer of employment is made, applicants have ten (10) days to acquire the appropriate Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.
