Description :

Department : Outpatient Dialysis

No clinical involvement.

Must be willing to pick up shifts when needed.

Minimum guaranteed hours are 36 hours per week.

Staff will be asked to cover shifts for sick calls or family emergencies.

Teamwork is appreciated by all staff.

The unit is licensed for 7 chairs with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 3-4.

Common diagnoses include adult to geriatric patients with a mixture of catheters and fistulas.

There is a nephrologist onsite twice a month for rounds; otherwise, they are available by phone.

A charge nurse supervises each shift.

No medical assistants or CNAs are utilized; the unit has one LPN and RNs.

Common medications administered include heparin, Hep B vaccine, flu vaccine, Zemplar, Ferleccit, cinacalcet, midodrine, darbepoetin alfa, and PRN medications such as Tylenol, Zofran, and occasional antibiotics.

The equipment used includes Fersenius 2008T.

EMR utilized in the unit is Clarity.

Shifts may vary based on census, with rotating weekends and every other holiday required.

There is no call or standby requirement.

Any color scrubs are allowed.

Staff will work a minimum of two nurses in the department at all times.

Three nurses will be present during shift changes to turn over machines and chairs.

ER and code teams are available if a patient has a sudden change in status.

Some patients may travel long distances to receive dialysis.

Attributes that contribute to success in this unit include teamwork, motivation, compassionate care, attention to patient safety, and infection control.

A radius rule of 50 miles applies.

RTO must be listed upfront, with additional requests not approved after submissions.

Cancellation policy includes the potential for up to four shifts to be canceled during the assignment.
