A day in this role
In this senior quality leadership position, you translate demanding customer and military requirements into a clear, executable quality strategy. Your day spans from reviewing engineering and test documentation to guiding teams through root-cause discovery and preventive actions. You’ll partner with suppliers, production, and program leadership to make data-driven decisions that protect schedule, cost, and quality.
What you’ll lead and deliver
- Create, maintain, and deploy comprehensive quality plans that map customer and contract requirements into actionable tasks and controls.
- Provide indirect leadership to engineers, technicians, and inspectors—setting priorities, mentoring, and elevating performance.
- Analyze program needs and develop responsive procedures, schedules, and resource plans for optimal quality support.
- Review and approve engineering / test / contractor documentation to ensure quality requirements are fully addressed.
- Author and implement formal quality system processes, procedures, and work instructions.
- Establish product and process metrics; gather, monitor, analyze, and report quality performance.
- Conduct internal audits; drive rigorous root cause and corrective action (RCCA) and verify effectiveness.
- Lead Material Review Boards (MRB), Failure Review Boards (FRB), and cross-functional improvement teams.
- Assess and disposition nonconforming material swiftly and accurately.
- Support Assembly / Test / Inspection through workmanship improvement plans, inspection criteria and methods, sampling plans, spec interpretation / revision, and nonconformance processing.
- Serve as the primary interface to customers and senior leadership to resolve quality issues and champion corrective actions for products and processes.
- Evaluate and recommend critical suppliers; lead on-site audits, prototype evaluations, and approval of supplier corrective actions while driving continuous improvement.
- Execute customer quality program requirements and ensure compliance across deliverables.
- Own the financial impact of quality controls and inspection strategies; optimize for value and risk reduction.
- Produce clear quality engineering reports and recommendations for program stakeholders.
- Mentor junior quality engineers and provide consistent status reporting.
Your background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field, plus 5+ years in manufacturing (defense preferred).ASQ certification and / or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.Proficiency with ISO standards, Six Sigma methods, and statistical analysis.Ability to interpret military specifications and complex blueprints.Exceptional communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.Demonstrated strength in problem definition, root cause analysis, and implementing effective corrective actions.Technical fluency we value
