About The Unit Mount Carmel East Mother Infant, recently designated Baby-Friendly Hospital, offers a 33 private bed unit. Our unit also includes a well-baby nursery, licensed lactation consultants and a full coverage medical staff team. Our patients are offered 24 hour rooming in experience, breast feeding support and best practice nursing care. Our Lactation Consultants are a part of our culture of shared governance, where collaboration creates an environment that puts the focus on what’s truly important – our patients and the communities we serve. The Lactation Consultant, within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, will provide care, consultation and education for patients, families, nursing staff, medical staff, allied health professionals, nursing students and the community regarding lactation in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The Lactation Consultant within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of Mount Carmel Health System. Responsibilities Assesses and evaluates patient care for breastfeeding mothers and babies, utilizing evidence based practice Collaborates with patient and family to develop and implement a plan of care that includes physical, spiritual and educational components Work with state-of-the-art technology Demonstrates the ability to manage lactation assignment effectively Provides equipment as needed, formulates feeding plan with parents, makes referrals for services as needed Promote evidence-based practice and quality initiatives and exhibits professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® Requirements / Qualifications Graduate from school of nursing Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio Certified by International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant Examiners Effective Communication Skills Minimum of two years recent and relevant clinical experience Mount Carmel and all its affiliates are proud to be equal opportunity employers.
