WEEKLY HOURS - .5 COURSE CREDIT : No more than 10 hours per week. No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit.

The internship is unpaid, and interns will not receive any financial compensation. )

WHEN WORK HAPPENS : Monday through Friday, 8 : 40 AM - 3 : 40 PM unless instructed differently by your SEL Teacher / Advisor / Mentor Contact Name above.

Summary of Position

We are seeking an individual to :

  • Assist introductory Woods students with the following :

Safe Operation of basic woodworking hand tools

  • Safe operation of industrial woodworking equipment
  • How to make woodworking plans
  • Measuring and Layout
  • Assist the Woods instructor with running the wood shop, including shop upkeep and cleaning, basic tool maintenance, wood organization, and receiving and inventory of woodworking materials and supplies.
  • Hard Skills

  • Enrolled in High School or GED
  • Currently enrolled in Wood Technology 4 or Wood Technology Aid
  • Recommendation by Wood Technology Instructor
  • Soft Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organized student with a positive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn
  • Attention to work rules and deadlines
  • Exposure & Training provided through internship

    We will teach you how to evaluate student work and workplace safety, effectively communicate how to correct the mistakes the students made on their work, and how to serve as a mentor to the Wood Technology students.

    Working and Physical Conditions / Onboarding Requirements (

  • vaccinations, etc.)
  • Please speak to your SEL Teacher / Advisor / Mentor regarding working and physical conditions at your intern site. You will also be required to sign and upload a Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.

    As part of your application, you will be expected to fill out your emergency contact information, school, and other personal information as required by Albuquerque Public Schools Work-Based Learning programs and the New Mexico Public Education Department. Failure to do so or omission, or erroneous information will result in your application being rejected.
