Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position on an acute care unit requiring a ND or compact RN license and BLS certification.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a 30-bed acute care Med / Surg unit in a trauma level 2 hospital setting
  • Day shifts are 12 hours, with scheduling managed by the unit manager
  • Required to work every other weekend and float to medical and telemetry units as needed
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nights
  • Common patient cases include post-surgical patients (joint replacements, spinal and abdominal surgeries, bariatrics, urology), medical overflow, and frequent use of hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
  • Occasional use of heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPN but no drip titration required
  • EPIC is used for charting and EMR documentation
  • Responsibilities include caring for post-surgical and medical overflow patients and participating in bedside shift report
  • Support staff includes a charge nurse on every shift and one tech per 12 patients
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is provided; RNs are not required to interpret strips
  • Floating may include taking medical patients in telemetry areas with assistance available for reading cardiac strips
  • Holiday coverage is required as needed
  • Any color scrubs are permitted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Maximum of 7 requested days off allowed per 13-week contract, must be submitted up front

  • Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg RN experience
  • Surgical, post-op, and ambulation experience preferred
  • Must provide 2 professional references : one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Submission must include a copy of driver's license
