Job Overview

As an Engineer III in the Vehicle Development Group of Komatsu's Surface Haulage Business Unit, you will play a key role in developing the next generation of electric drive mining haul trucks. You'll be part of a fast-paced vehicle development team responsible for designing and integrating new components and systems that improve truck performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

This role offers full ownership of your designs from concept through production. You will lead the development of mechanical systems, create and refine CAD models and drawings, and drive decision-making by presenting solutions, incorporating feedback, and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders. Collaboration is essential-expect to work closely with engineering peers, manufacturing teams, test and validation groups, and third-party suppliers to ensure your designs meet performance and cost targets and are fully validated before production release.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a collaborative environment and is motivated by seeing their designs move from idea to implementation in real-world mining operations.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design and develop components and systems for electric drive mining trucks from concept through production release, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and cost targets are met.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using industry-standard tools, adhering to internal standards and best practices.
  • Present and defend design concepts and recommendations to peers, stakeholders, and management.
  • Collaborate closely with various teams-including engineering, manufacturing, testing , and 3rd parties-to ensure design feasibility and integration.
  • Develop and execute validation plans, including hand calculations, bench testing, and field testing, to confirm performance and reliability of new designs.
  • Release parts and assemblies into the production system, supporting all required documentation and processes.
  • Participate in and support improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain, and support components, products, and / or services.
  • Take ownership of your personal development by actively building technical skills and seeking feedback to continuously improve performance and contributions.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline, required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering design, machine application, mining industry, desired.
  • Proficient in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, desired.
  • Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired.
  • Participation in effective Change Management implementation, desired.
  • Experience in cross-functional team assignment(s), required.
  • Professional registration and / or membership in committees and / or technical societies, beneficial.
  • Additional Information

    The hiring range for this role is $82,000-$102,500. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
