Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.

  • Job Summary

    South Mountain Community College is seeking a full-time Residential Faculty member in Construction / Electrical to begin Spring 2026. This faculty member will teach and mentor a diverse student population through hands-on, applied learning in lecture, lab, and online formats. You will prepare students for rewarding careers in the electrical field while actively contributing to program development, industry partnerships, and student engagement initiatives.

    This role is ideal for an educator who thrives on innovation, values student success, and wants to help grow a modern, workforce-aligned Construction / Electrical program.

    Essential Functions

  • Instruction & Curriculum Development
  • Teach Electrical courses in lecture, lab, and online environments.

  • Develop and update curriculum to reflect industry standards and emerging technologies.
  • Maintain an engaging and inclusive classroom / shop environment.
  • Create and distribute course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Student Success & Advising
  • Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and career advisement.

  • Assist students in securing internships, apprenticeships, or employment opportunities.
  • Maintain office hours and use multiple communication methods to connect with students.
  • Program & Industry Engagement
  • Coordinate Electrical Certificates of Completion and program initiatives.

  • Promote the program through outreach, events, tours, and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry, universities, and community organizations.
  • College & Professional Contributions
  • Serve on committees, participate in college-wide initiatives, and collaborate with colleagues.

  • Attend professional development activities to remain current in the field and in teaching practices.
  • Ensure compliance with MCCCD and state / federal requirements, including FERPA, grading deadlines, and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    For occupational disciplines, a combination of education and / or experience is required to qualify. A faculty may qualify with any of the following :

  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field
  • A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught.
  • Desired Qualifications

    A. Six (6) years of hands-on, full-time, wage-earning experience directly in the electrical field.

    B. Three (3) years fulltime or more experience teaching or training in a professional environment

    C. Completion of a 4-year approved apprenticeship program

    D. Industry Certifications such as :

    NCCER - Certified Plus" from The National Center for Construction Education and Research; NOCTI - National Occupational Competency Testing Institute; OSHA 30 - 30-Hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration training

    F. Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) such Canvas or Blackboard on a higher education setting.

    G. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and basic computer skills

  • May require to work some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
