Senior Accounting Technician

The City of Salinas is accepting applications for the classification of Senior Accounting Technician to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. The job involves performing a variety of specialized accounting duties within the City's financial systems.

Essential Job Functions

The essential job functions include :

• Performing accounting duties within the City's accounting system
• Monitoring a variety of accounts involving posting, balancing and preparing journal entries
• Reconciling bank statements for various City accounts
• Processing and reviewing travel authorizations for all City Departments
• Maintaining and monitoring grant programs, trust accounts for the City, fixed assets inventory, assessment districts
• Typing and processing a variety of documents including letters, e-mail, reports, statistical charts and forms
• Processing and maintaining personnel and payroll records
• Assisting in preparing various audit related financial reports
• Performing special assignments as requested
• Providing assistance to account clerks and accounting technicians as necessary
• Promoting and maintaining safety in the workplace
• Performing related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of :

Ability to :

Education : High school diploma / GED, supplemented by college courses in accounting

Experience : Four (4) years of increasing responsible accounting experience.

Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, computer, business machines and related equipment; vision sufficient to read printed materials, visual display terminals; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in a normal conversational distance, on the telephone and in addressing groups; physical agility to push / pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment, physical strength to lift up to 20 lbs.; physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.

Business office working environment subject to sitting at a desk or standing at a counter for long periods of time, bending, crouching, or kneeling at files, pushing / pulling of file drawers and supplies, reaching in all directions and prolonged periods of time working at a computer terminal. Employee must complete SB 1343 Sexual Harassment Prevention Training within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter.
