Solid Waste Temporary Employee
Performs routine unskilled manual labor tasks in the collection of refuse, recycling, leaves, limbs, white goods and bulky items.
An employee in this class performs manual labor tasks related to the collection of refuse, recycling, leaves, limbs, white goods and bulky items. Work involves heavy lifting and working at a constant pace. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, and gases. Work is performed under the daily direction of an equipment operator and regular supervision of the Sanitation Supervisor. Work is evaluated through daily observation for quality and completion according to instructions and established standards.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
General knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned area of work.
Ability to perform continuous heavy manual work at a steady pace and under various weather conditions.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with coworkers and the general public.
High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
One year of maintenance work or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs heavy work that involves constantly lifting, shoveling, and carrying 35 to 50 pounds on a regular and recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to : bright / dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and / or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels, animals / wildlife; vibration; fumes and / or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery.
