Position Overview

This is a 13-week contract position at Research Psychiatric Center located in Kansas City, MO. An active Blue Card CPI certification is required to apply.

Unit Specifics

ADOL : 18

  • Serenity : 24
  • ITU : 32
  • SRAD : 16
  • VINE : 9
  • Patient Ratios :

    • Nurses : 8 to 1

  • MHTs : 12 to 1

    • Unit Descriptions

    The ADOL unit serves patients aged 12-18 years, while Serenity is a lower-acuity adult unit. ITU is designated for higher-acuity adult patients with thought disorder diagnoses. SRAD caters to patients leading a senior lifestyle, and VINE is a lower-acuity adult unit.

    Equipment and Documentation

    The documentation system utilized at this facility is Meditech.

    Position Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment : Ability to assess mental health status, recognize signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral problems through thorough histories and observations.
  • Care Planning : Develop individualized care plans tailored to the specific needs of patients dealing with mental health and behavioral issues, setting goals and implementing interventions.
  • Medication Management : Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions, with a strong knowledge of psychotropic medications.
  • Crisis Intervention : Provide immediate support to patients in crisis, including de-escalation techniques and appropriate medication management.
  • Therapeutic Communication : Build trust and rapport with patients through effective communication, active listening, and empathy.
  • Monitoring : Observe and document patients' physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and mental status changes.

    Nurses are required to wear blue uniforms, while Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) should wear green or black.

    Additional Information

    We require coverage for three 12-hour shifts each day, seven days a week, including weekends. Please note that days off are not guaranteed unless specified in the contract. The floating policy allows for flexibility where the greatest need is identified.
