Description
The Captain / Jail Administrator is an administrative and supervisory position, acting as the second assistant to the Sheriff. This position takes command of the Sheriff's Office in the absence of the Sheriff and Chief Deputy. The primary responsibility is to manage and oversee the operations of the Kandiyohi County Jail, ensuring safety, security, and compliance with all standards and constitutional requirements. The Captain / Jail Administrator is tasked with developing and recommending policies, procedures, and operational strategies for the jail. This role also involves coordination with criminal justice system partners, managing personnel, budget recommendations, and ensuring training and performance standards are met.
Job Duties
Serve as the second assistant to the Sheriff, taking command in their absence.
Supervise jail personnel across all shifts and ensure that staffing levels meet operational needs.
Assist in developing and managing the jail's budget, ensuring operations are within budgetary constraints.
Serve as a liaison between jail personnel and other law enforcement, judicial, and service providers.
Oversee the safety and security of all inmates, staff, and visitors within the jail facility.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Sheriff or designated authority.
Qualifications
Associate's Degree.
Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to correctional facilities.
Ability to perform manual tasks requiring coordination, strength, and dexterity, including lifting and moving objects up to 75 pounds.
