Position Summary

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer (PE) to lead the firm’s mechanical design function. This key leadership position is responsible for the design, coordination, and technical execution of HVAC and plumbing systems for a wide range of residential and commercial building projects. The ideal candidate is a self-driven professional who enjoys technical depth, client interaction, and mentoring younger engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design process for HVAC and plumbing systems from concept through construction.
  • Perform site assessments, feasibility studies, and calculations for load, ventilation, and energy performance.
  • Oversee the preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for mechanical systems.
  • Review and seal drawings and submittals for code compliance and technical accuracy.
  • Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other disciplines to ensure seamless project coordination.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide client consultation, and represent the mechanical discipline externally.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and professional development.
  • Contribute to firm-wide standards, templates, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Massachusetts preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design for MEP consulting projects.
  • Expertise in HVAC system design for residential, commercial, and institutional projects.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing system design and coordination.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of local and national codes, including Massachusetts Building Code, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across disciplines.
