Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to support a critical upgrade project from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in a virtualized, on-premises environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of high availability (HA), clustering, disaster recovery (DR), and virtual infrastructure, with strong scripting and performance optimization skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the upgrade process from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 within a virtualized infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC).
- Work closely with infrastructure teams to configure storage, VMs, and networking.
- Support both production and DR environments, ensuring business continuity.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup / restore.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
- Provide on-call support and guidance to junior DBAs or contractors as needed.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions to internal staff.
Required Qualifications
12+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.Proven success upgrading SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in virtualized environments.Deep expertise in clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery (DR).Strong understanding of VMware or Hyper-V virtual environments.Proficient in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting.Experience with Windows Server (2022 preferred) in on-prem data centers.Proficiency in managing SQL Server components including SSRS, SSIS, and Analysis Services.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified DBA (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).Familiarity with VM backup and snapshot strategies.Experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or Sentry One.Understanding of hybrid disaster recovery strategies and off-site replication.Knowledge of SQL Server licensing models and compliance.Familiarity with Active Directory configurations, including Cluster Name Objects (CNO) for HA SQL setups, Delegated rights for service accounts.Understanding of DNS configuration for SQL Listeners and high availability scenarios.
