Job Summary
The Cook is responsible for assisting with food preparation, ensuring food quality, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen. This role involves preparing a variety of dishes, following recipes, and assisting with inventory management and kitchen operations. The Cook works closely with the Head Cook and kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities
Food Control :
- Assist in checking chopped fruits for freshness, ensuring they meet expiration standards.
- Prepare ingredients for dishes, including verifying the quality of peppers, meats, and other ingredients for preparation.
Food Preparation :
Prepare meat for tamales, chicken for cooking, and other dishes as directed.Assist in cooking and seasoning dishes, including tamales, meats, and other menu items.Ensure that hot water containers are ready to keep food at the appropriate serving temperature.Sauces and Condiments :
Assist in ensuring an adequate supply of sauces and condiments.Refill condiments and sauces as necessary to keep up with service demand.Inventory Management :
Monitor food inventory and assist in identifying missing items.Help with restocking coolers and organizing food storage.Chopped Fruit :
Chop fruits as needed, ensuring they meet cleanliness and quality standards.Assist in organizing and disposing of fruits that are no longer suitable for sale.Cleaning and Maintenance :
Keep the kitchen area clean and organized, including countertops, sinks, floors, and walls.Ensure kitchen tools and equipment are cleaned after use and maintained in good working order.Quality Control :
Ensure food is prepared to standard and verify it meets hygiene and quality expectations.Assist in maintaining cleanliness in all areas of food preparation.General Kitchen Support :
Work with the Head Cook and other team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.Assist in setting up food for service and maintaining kitchen efficiency during peak times.Requirements :
Qualifications and Skills
Education :
High school diploma or equivalent required.Culinary certification or relevant experience preferred but not required.Experience :
Previous experience in a kitchen role or food preparation is preferred.Experience with food handling and safety standards is a plus.Knowledge :
Knowledge of food preparation techniques, ingredients, and kitchen tools.Familiarity with food safety practices and proper temperature control for food.Skills :
Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.Good communication & bilingual (Spanish and English) skills to work effectively with kitchen staff and management.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.Strong attention to detail, especially in food preparation and cleanliness.Multitasking abilities to handle multiple kitchen tasks at once.Disclaimer :
