Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled Linux Software and Hardware System Integration Engineer to join our Special Test Equipment (STE) Group. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting engine test simulations and ensuring the reliability of advanced test systems used across commercial and military programs. The ideal candidate brings a Linux and programming background, software logic and systems test experience, and an electrical engineering foundation.

This is an onsite role primarily based in East Hartford, CT. Domestic and international travel, as needed, will be required to support remote test system operations.

What You'll Do

  • Perform Linux system administration tasks (e.g., user management, configuration updates, file transfers) leveraging automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Execute Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) on new and modified Closed Loop Bench (CLB) systems.
  • Develop and modify UI (Universal Interface) support test scripts to meet program-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with STE leads and managers to ensure proper operation of test systems and provide direct support to system users.
  • Monitor priority issues, track and resolve problems preventing effective use of test systems.
  • Maintain test system software to ensure security, enable new functionality, and address bugs.
  • Define and maintain system-level interface documentation (Master I / O) for new test systems in partnership with the STE hardware design team.
  • Install and remove Electronic Engine Controls (EECs) in support of Verification Integrated Product Teams (VIPTs).
  • Identify, suggest, and evaluate test system modifications that enhance usability and performance.
  • Use Commercial off the shelf (COTS) instrumentation (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, ARINC / 1553 / 1394 analyzers) to troubleshoot bus and system integration issues.
  • Perform design modifications to cabling, connectors, and circuit boards as required to support updates.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Qualifications We Prefer

  • Background in electrical engineering, hardware / software integration, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux system administration and automation (e.g., Ansible).
  • Proficiency in Python and software scripting for test automation.
  • Familiarity with test systems, hardware interfaces, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience with COTS instrumentation and communication protocols (ARINC, 1553, 1394).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (domestic and international).
