Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring an active NE or compact RN license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification.
Responsibilities
Position is in an acute care hospital within the Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU16-bed ICU with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 2, with occasional 1 : 1 for TPA, balloon pump, or craniotomy recovery casesPatient population ranges from young adults to geriatrics with diagnoses including sepsis, STEMI, COVID, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKAEquipment used includes Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, lumbar drains, and eICU remote monitoringRNs are required to titrate sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, and insulin dripsRNs must read and interpret telemetry / monitor strips12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and as-needed holiday requirementsFloating is required, primarily to PCU but possibly to any unit based on abilityDocumentation is completed in Epic EMR; prior experience is preferredUnit schedulers handle the creation of work schedulesRole involves managing critically ill patients with complex cardiac and neurological needsCharge nurse is present on every shift and there are nurse aides with a 1 : 10 support ratioRNs are responsible for all aspects of ventilator management from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilationFocus on bedside shift reports, intentional hourly rounding, and team-based care in a fast-paced environmentStaff must be motivated, open to learning, and comfortable working with a culturally diverse communityUnit provides two shifts of department-specific orientation and a 12-hour general orientationNavy blue scrubs are requiredHoliday coverage will be assigned as needed and RTO (up to 7 days per 13-week contract) must be submitted up front; additional RTO will not be approvedRequirements
Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum of 1 year recent ICU experience requiredCurrent BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not acceptedAbility to titrate critical care drips and manage advanced life support equipmentMust provide a copy of a valid driver’s license to verify permanent residence of at least 50 miles from the facilityCannot be a full time, part time, or PRN employee of any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past yearRequires a pass / fail open book exam during orientation, with a 90% score needed to continueCompliance with hospital’s artificial fingernail policy (no artificial nails allowed)Two professional references required : one supervisor from within the past 12 months and one supervisor or peer from the past 3 yearsBenefits
