Location : Portland Oregon (Relocation Support available for the right candidate)

Days : Monday – Thursday, 4-10’s (flexible)

Type : Direct Hire, Full-Time, Hybrid

Pay : $166,000 – $215,000 / yr DOE

SRG is partnering with a leading, family-owned dental equipment manufacturer in the Portland, Oregon metro area to identify a Principal Electrical Engineer. This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role with a company known for innovation, long-term stability, and a culture of collaboration and growth.

You’ll help shape next-generation dental technology that improves patient comfort, clinician precision, and product reliability—while mentoring a talented engineering team and guiding the company’s electrical systems strategy.

About the Role

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you’ll be the organization’s primary technical authority in electrical engineering, leading system architecture, product design, and technology innovation across multiple product lines. You’ll work on diverse systems including dental chairs, lighting, sterilization equipment, and digital delivery units, blending analog and digital design challenges that demand both creativity and precision.

This position reports to the Director of Product Technology and serves as a key mentor and technical leader within a department of skilled professionals.

Key Focus Areas

Product Development, Compliance, and Technology Leadership – 25%

  • Establish and define electrical system architecture and platform direction for current and future product generations
  • Partner with Project Chiefs, Product Management, Engineering Management, and Technology Research to drive strategic technology decisions
  • Lead new product design and sustaining engineering efforts, ensuring products comply with all technical and regulatory requirements
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations to strategic planning teams; serve as a key contributor to long-term product roadmaps
  • Spearhead next-generation product development and oversee improvements and maintenance of existing designs

Technical Expertise and Innovation – 25%

  • Maintain active, hands-on design involvement while staying current with manufacturing methods, testing technologies, and industry standards
  • Analyze complex problems and develop innovative, practical solutions that meet high-reliability and performance goals
  • Ensure technology selections and designs align with customer needs, reliability targets, and cost efficiency
  • Oversee design activities to ensure schedule adherence, resource efficiency, and compliance with standards
  • Lead initiatives to meet EMI / EMC standards (FCC, CISPR)
  • Represent the company in professional organizations and industry forums as a technical expert and innovator
  • Mentorship and Organizational Development – 25%

  • Mentor and coach design engineers to promote technical growth and professional development
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of engineering talent to build a high-performing team
  • Provide training and guidance to less senior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and technical excellence
  • Encourage participation in professional networks and organizations to maintain industry leadership
  • Strategic Collaboration and Communication – 25%

  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Product Management, Regulatory, Marketing, and Operations
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide input to strategic planning teams to influence major technology and business decisions
  • Assess, articulate, and manage project risk while developing contingency and execution plans

    Qualifications

  • Experience : 15+ years of progressively responsible, hands-on electrical engineering experience, ideally within medical device (dental preferred), safety-critical, or other highly regulated product environments.
  • PCB Design Expertise : Mastery of end-to-end PCB design—from concept, system architecture, and layout through design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and transfer to production—for both simple and highly complex or compact electronic products.
  • Circuit Design : Deep expertise in analog and digital circuit design, including high-speed differential signal integrity, DC-DC converters, embedded microcontrollers, sensors, and system interfaces.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Proven track record working with EMI / EMC standards (FCC, CISPR, etc.), compliance testing, and close collaboration with regulatory teams.
  • Technical Tools : Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer (schematic capture and layout) and LTSpice (or similar simulation tools), plus familiarity with CAN bus, Ethernet, and wireless communication protocols.
  • Leadership and Mentorship : Hands-on technical leader and mentor who guides engineers at all levels and drives innovation across teams—without requiring formal management authority.
  • Problem Solving : Recognized for analytical rigor, creative problem solving, and the ability to translate customer and product requirements into robust, manufacturable designs.
  • Collaboration and Communication : Excellent communicator with a history of effective cross-functional collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work Authorization : Must have authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Profit Sharing : 7–10% of base salary (401k contribution)
  • Bonus : Average 4.5% of base salary
