Junior Network Engineer
FedTec is seeking a skilled Junior Network Engineer who will support the sustainment and administration of Legacy Systems network infrastructure. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role assists in maintaining the availability and security of routers, switches, firewalls, and network services across classified and unclassified environments. This role will perform routine updates, assist with troubleshooting, and contribute to documentation and reporting requirements while developing technical expertise in a mission-critical DoD environment.
Location : (On-Site) Fort Meade, MD
Security Clearance : Verifiable DoD Top Secret is required
Certifications : DoD 8140 Compliant (CND, Net+, or higher)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with sustainment of OSS Lab and production network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Support the implementation of patches, firmware updates, and DISA STIG requirements under supervision of senior engineers.
- Provide first-line troubleshooting and escalate complex issues to senior staff for resolution.
- Help maintain OSS Network Services such as AAA, DNS, NTP, Syslog, and storage.
- Document system configurations, connectivity diagrams, and technical procedures.
- Assist with firewall sustainment activities, including configuration changes and support for technical refresh efforts.
- Participate in testing updates and changes in lab environments prior to production deployment.
- Support compliance and accreditation activities by running STIG scans, collecting data, and preparing remediation notes.
- Contribute to transition-in / out activities by maintaining inventories, process documentation, and password listings.
- Prepare draft reports and updates for senior review in accordance with contract deliverables.
Basic Qualifications Required Education, Certifications, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with 5+ Years of experienceAdditional relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree on a case-by-case basis
Basic knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP addressing, routing basics, VLANs).Exposure to DISA, DoD environments, or network security compliance a plus.Experience with system documentation and ticketing systems preferred.Strong interest in learning advanced network engineering and sustainment.Ability to follow technical procedures and escalate issues appropriately.Good troubleshooting skills for common network incidents.Effective communicator, able to work in a team and take direction from senior staff.Minimum Citizenship Status Requirements : US CitizenWhen You Join FedTec, You Are Joining a Family!
