Student Nurse Resident LPN
The Student Nurse Resident LPN will demonstrate the ability to learn and apply the knowledge and skills they have been taught in their nursing program in order to provide technically skilled care to patients. The goal of the Student Nurse Resident LPN experience is to provide undergraduate nursing students with an extended clinical experience to enhance their foundational nursing education. The Student Nurse Resident LPN functions as a member of the patient care team, experiencing the complexities of a nursing care delivery model and collaborating with all team members. The Student Nurse Resident LPN reports to a Nurse leader and will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN for the Student Nurse Resident LPN will support learning experiences to enable the Student Nurse Resident LPN to proficiently perform nursing care activities in both complex and non-complex situations. Work is performed in accordance with Hospital Policies and Procedures and Professional standards of practice.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, makes sound clinical judgments, appropriate to current knowledge and skill level.
- Recognizes limits of knowledge base and initiates steps to ensure safety.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, carries out interventions as noted in the plan of care, and collaborates with all members of the healthcare team.
- Performs basic patient care skills in a competent manner.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, completes nursing care in an acceptable time frame.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, facilitates patient / family health through teaching using discussion, appropriate visual aids and demonstration / return demonstration to meet identified learning needs throughout the episode of care and at the time of discharge.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, collects data from a variety of resources.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, promotes continuous education and skills development for self.
- Under the guidance of the supervising licensed nurse, performs interventions efficiently and appropriately.
- Maintains patient safety by appropriately following policies and procedures, and Alabama Board of Nursing Rules.
- Administer medications allowed by the Alabama Board of Nursing under direct supervision of the supervising licensed nurse.
- Communicates effectively and accurately with supervising licensed nurse and the healthcare team.
- Identifies own learning needs and seeks out patient care situations that are associated with those needs.
- Use feedback from others to create new learning experiences and to reinforce current knowledge and skill level.
Minimum Education :
Current enrollment in an approved Registered Nursing program AND successful completion of fundamentals, pharmacology, and medication administrationPreferred Experience :Experience working in a patient care role (such as Nursing Assistant or Medical assistant
