Overview
Police Officer position at Inside Higher Ed (Texas A&M University - Commerce) located in Commerce, Texas. The role provides professional law enforcement services focused on serving the university community, preventing crime, investigating offenses, and supporting campus safety.
Responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle to deter crime, enforce laws and regulations, direct traffic, and enforce parking rules.
- Respond to calls and complaints involving criminal activity; conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations; gather evidence and witness statements; apprehend suspects and transport offenders.
- Write detailed reports; interview complainants; coordinate with CID or other departments as needed.
- Secure crime scenes, testify in court when required, and maintain awareness of potential safety hazards and perimeters.
- Assist faculty, staff, and students with information or general inquiries; operate police radios and department equipment; maintain professional appearance and interface with the campus community.
- Develop and maintain required skills and certifications; attend continuing education and training as mandated.
- Operate and qualify with department firearms; drive department vehicles safely; use related equipment and office systems; manage information from bulletins and briefings.
Minimum Requirements
Education : High school diploma or equivalent, plus eitherMinimum of twelve (12) college credit hours from an accredited institution (official transcripts required), orMinimum of one (1) year of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces with appropriate documentation (DD Form 214 or unit verification for active service).Experience / Knowledge / Skills : Fluent in American English; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.Ability to multitask, work additional hours including evenings / weekends / holidays, and communicate effectively with campus populations.Capability to operate under adverse and stressful conditions.Licensing / Certifications : Valid driver license with good driving record; Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license. Must meet minimum licensing standards as required by TCOLE.Physical / Psychological Requirements : Ability to obtain required TCOLE medical and psychological declarations.Other Requirements : Background investigation and testing, possible polygraph and drug testing; open arrests may disqualify.Preferred Education / Skills / Experience
Three (3) years of commissioned law enforcement experience OR equivalent options such as college credits (30 hours or more) or three years of active military service with appropriate documentation.Compensation and Status
