Vehicle Equipment Operator II
Job Description
One current vacancy. Announcement will remain open until filled. This is a 40 hours per week position. Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the proper operation of motorized maintenance equipment used in the maintenance of assigned areas of the department. Work involves driving a truck; hauling away trees that were cut down; flushing out drains; cleaning out debris; and hauling asphalt. Reports to the Superintendent or assigned Foreman.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential job functions include : performing general grounds keeping and drain maintenance such as cutting grass, weed eating, etc; cleaning and rebuilding drains; repairing potholes on streets; picking up trash; assisting Building Maintenance and Recreation with holiday decorations; performing light maintenance on trucks and small engine repairs on vehicles; moving furniture; following safety guidelines and wearing related safety equipment; receiving and / or reviewing various records and report such as work orders, memorandums from department, and electronic mail; preparing and / or processing various records and reports such as vehicle inspection sheet, work orders, completed work orders, drainage streets, log; referring to radio call sheets, Equipment Operator instructions, handbook, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc; operating a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as flatbed truck, vactor truck, lawn mower, bush hog, chipper, etc; using a variety of tools such as shovel, rake, pick, sledgehammer, wheelbarrow, etc; and a variety of supplies such as cement, garbage bags, weed eater parts, weed killer, oil, etc; interacting and communicating with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, Foreman, Crew Chiefs, Assistant Director, and the general public. Additional job functions include : assembling tents; cutting trees when needed; may supervise a crew when needed; and performing other related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires two to three years of experience performing phases of grounds and facilities maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a Louisiana Class D driver's license.
Non-competitive - all candidates meeting the minimum qualification requirements and any necessary selective criteria will be certified to the vacancy.
