Production Editor Job at Scholastic in New York

Overview

The Production Editor organizes and oversees the accurate and timely production of Scholastic classroom magazines from layout through prepress and then on to digital implementation. The role involves close work in InDesign layouts ensuring design accuracy, consistent formatting, and adherence to established department styles; trafficking assets; preparing layout files for press and digital publishing. The Production Editor works closely with editorial, art, photo, and digital teams to meet exacting quality standards and on-time delivery.

Location and work arrangement : This role is based in NYC (SoHo Office). It requires a minimum of three days a week in the office. The role will be in the office 5 days a week for the first 6 months for training purposes. After 6 months the job will become hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Organize issues within the WoodWing publishing system; upload layouts and create articles; route issues to Art, Editorial, and Copy Desk
• Flow copy into magazine layouts; make editorial and art corrections; request and place photo credits; create layouts and flow text for teacher’s editions and skills sheets; create simple graphs and diagrams
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and prepare layouts for conversion to press-ready PDFs; deliver PDFs to press and do final approvals for printing
• Traffic print and digital assets; manage the quality control to ensure adherence to file naming protocols, folder structures, printer specs, font standards, and stylesheets; keep templates up-to-date
• Upload online content and build web pages
• Archive all print and online files

Qualifications

Experience : 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position at a magazine or other publishing environment

Education : BA or higher
