Payroll & Benefits Administrator
Location : North Haven, CT
Compensation : $75,000 - $80,000 / DOE
Join a leading U.S. manufacturer of advanced heating systems and combustion controls used across North America. Known for precision engineering and dependable performance, this team combines innovation, safety, and craftsmanship to power the next generation of energy-efficient solutions.Own payroll and benefits end-to-end in a multi-state environment. You’ll run accurate, compliant pay cycles in Paycor, keep deductions and plans clean, and stay on top of changing labor, tax, and leave laws (including the new overtime rules). This role is the point person for audits, filings, reconciliations, and employee pay / benefits questions—driving trust and zero-defect execution.
What you’ll do :
- Process weekly / biweekly payroll in Paycor; audit timecards, pay codes, and accruals for accuracy.
- Configure and maintain Paycor settings for earnings, deductions, benefits, overtime, and state / local taxes.
- Implement changes tied to new overtime regulations, minimum wage updates, and final pay requirements.
- Administer and reconcile garnishments, child support, wage assignments, and loan repayments.
- Manage 401(k) plans : eligibility, enrollments, deferrals, employer match, loans, and funding files.
- Oversee medical / dental / vision / life / STD / LTD and state leave programs (FMLA, CTPL, etc.); ensure correct deductions each cycle.
- Run open enrollment and qualifying life event changes; coordinate carrier feeds and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, COBRA; prepare 1095 / 1094 and benefits census files as needed.
- Own payroll tax compliance : registrations, rate updates, filings, deposits, quarter-end and year-end (W-2 / W-3).
- Monitor federal / state / local law changes; update policies, rate tables, and system rules accordingly.
- Maintain secure, accurate employee records (I-9, W-4, direct deposit, benefits elections).
- Produce GL postings, payroll / benefits reconciliations, and audit / support schedules for Finance and external auditors.
- Respond to employee inquiries about pay and benefits with precise, compliant guidance.
- Drive continuous improvement : eliminate defects, tighten controls, and document SOPs / playbooks.
What you’ll bring :
3+ years hands-on multi-state payroll and benefits administration; manufacturing or hourly workforce a plus.Deep knowledge of wage & hour compliance (overtime, minimum wage, final pay), leave laws (FMLA, CTPL), and lawful deductions.Strong payroll tax expertise (registrations, rate changes, filings, deposits, quarter / year-end).Proficiency with Paycor (or ADP / Paylocity / Paycom) ; confident configuring earnings / deductions / benefits and reporting.Accuracy : audit mindset, data integrity focus, and tight control of reconciliations and deadlines.Clear communicator with high discretion handling confidential information.Associate’s / Bachelor’s in Accounting, HR, or related field preferred.Certifications (FPC / CPP, SHRM-CP) and bilingual English / Spanish are pluses.This is a full-time, salaried position with competitive benefits and a supportive, safety-focused environment.
