Department Information

The English Department offers a rigorous curriculum in four degree programs : a B.A. in English with concentrations in literature, creative writing, and film, media, and culture : a minor in English; an M.A. in English; and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Each program is designed to empower students to develop their passion for literature and written expression into skills that last a lifetime in any career and in every walk of life. The department also includes an active First-Year Writing Program and manages several publications, including The Peacock's Feet, Peach (formerly Arts & Letters), and The Flannery O'Connor Review. Affiliated with the Flannery O'Connor Institute for Humanities, the department collaborates to host lectures, conferences, and an NEH Summer Institute on Flannery O'Connor.

Job Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor to teach courses in Multi-Ethnic American Literatures and also teach courses which would be cross-listed with our Black Studies Program. Secondary interests in women's and gender studies, film studies, or emerging genres. This faculty position, based in the Department of English, is a 10-month academic position.

We seek candidates with a strong research program and evidence of excellence in teaching. Successful applicants should be able to articulate how they would contribute to the mission a public liberal arts college and the diversity of our offerings. The successful candidate will teach and develop upper division and graduate courses which contribute to the major curriculum, along with teaching lower division courses such as American and World Literatures surveys, American's Diverse Cultural Heritage, Georgia College Experience courses, and first-year writing.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Terminal degree in a closely related field.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)).

Required Experience

Some teaching experience.
