Heavy Equipment Operator (Dozer / Excavator / Loader)

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of construction equipment, including dozers, excavators, and loaders, to perform sitework, grading, excavation, and material handling. This position plays a critical role in supporting civil, environmental, and site development projects by maintaining productivity, precision, and safety on every task.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dozers, excavators, and loaders in accordance with project specifications and safety regulations.
  • Perform site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material loading.
  • Interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and supervisor instructions to achieve required grades and slopes.
  • Conduct daily pre-start inspections and maintain equipment in proper working condition.
  • Communicate clearly with the site team and signal personnel to ensure coordinated and safe operations.
  • Load, move, and distribute materials efficiently while minimizing waste and avoiding contamination.
  • Perform fine grading and maintain proper drainage and compaction standards.
  • Support crew operations with general labor tasks as needed when equipment is idle.
  • Adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols at all times.
  • Report mechanical issues, unsafe conditions, or potential hazards immediately.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 23 years of experience operating dozers, excavators, and loaders in civil or sitework construction.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grade stakes.
  • Strong safety awareness, attention to detail, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience with GPS grade control systems a plus.
  • Proficiency with using lasers for pipe leveling.
  • Proficiency with Excavator, Loader & Dozer equipment.

    Job Type & Location

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Brunswick, New Jersey.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 / hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
