The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County ("BXDA") is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By "Pursuing Justice with Integrity," the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Special Officer / Peace Officer. Candidates should exhibit a strong interest in criminal law and public service. Under supervision, the Special Officer will provide physical security, safety, and maintenance of order in accordance with agency procedures. Uses computers and operates electronic security and safety monitoring systems and other equipment and devices. Job Responsibilities include : screening employees and visitors, operating and monitoring security equipment, giving routine information to visitors and clients, patrolling designated areas to maintain order, making clock rounds, reporting security and safety hazards, making arrests and issuing summonses, responding to emergency and security incidents, providing assistance to the sick, injured, and disabled, recording daily actions, and maintaining records of persons entering or leaving buildings. Minimum Qualifications : 1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. Therefore, all candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers. Incumbents must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers and obtain certification. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Preferred Skills : A valid New York State driver's license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience preferred. CPR Certification preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. Abilities to resolve conflicts and multitask. Ability to attend, complete and maintain State and agency training requirements.
