Description of Job
This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) is a Housekeeping Supervisor for the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), at a Canon City Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : Ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the facility and supervising and training inmate work crews. Position promotes the CDOC Mission, Vision, and Values with integrity and commitment.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of employment experience in commercial / institutional housekeeping, janitorial and / or custodial work. Experience must include floor cleaning, surface cleaning, deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, and comprehensive knowledge of associated cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment. OR Applicant may meet the four year requirement with a combination of work experience as follows : A minimum of two (2) years of employment experience as described above may be combined with correctional experience for a total of four years. Correctional experience must be security related duties where primary responsibilities throughout a shift include monitoring and controlling inmate movement throughout their daily schedules, discovering and preventing contraband and responding to emergencies; ensuring proper key / tool / chemical / equipment control, use, storage and accountability; advising inmates in matters concerning work, programs, appropriate behavior, and decision making in order to prepare them for successful community re-entry.

Proficiency in correctional housekeeping, floor cleaning, sanitation and chemical use, storage and tracking. Strong Work Ethic, integrity and dependability. Ability to follow policies to include sound tool control practices. Sound judgment and decision making skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively cooperate with other staff and inspire teamwork. Willingness and ability to train, coach and mentor inmate workers in order to prepare them for community reentry. Ability to quickly respond to emergencies (such as fights, medical emergencies, fires or escapes). Self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations. Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift. Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction. Ability to read and comprehend the English language. Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind.
