Child Advocate

Full-Time Position

Harbor House of Central Florida is seeking a dedicated and experienced Child Advocate to join our team. As a domestic violence advocate , you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for the children of domestic violence survivors residing at our agency. Your responsibilities will include providing hands-on activities, implementing curriculum, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the facility and classrooms.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Create and maintain a secure and supportive childcare setting for children affected by domestic violence.
  • Implement engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Perform general facility and classroom cleaning to maintain a safe environment.
  • Respond effectively to children and adults in crisis situations, supporting the overall mission as a domestic violence advocate .

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED; CDA preferred.
  • 45-hour DCF training and CPR / First Aid certification required.
  • Must meet the State of Florida requirements for childcare providers.
  • Knowledge of basic child growth and development, indicators of abuse, and the effects of domestic violence on children and adults.
  • Ability to lift and hold children up to 40 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • A valid Florida driver's license and a safe driving record are required.
  • The ability to read, write, and speak fluently in both English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience :

  • A minimum of two years' experience in the early childhood field is required.
  • Previous experience as a domestic violence advocate or in a similar role is highly valued.
