About StepUp Durham

StepUp Durham is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping adults transform their lives through employment and life skills training. We provide job readiness workshops, employment counseling, and long-term support to help individuals—especially those facing barriers like a criminal background or gaps in employment—achieve financial stability and career growth.

The Role

We are seeking a Project Development Manager (Contract) to lead critical fundraising initiatives during a period of organizational transition. This is a 7-month contract role (20 hours / week) with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate is a skilled grant writer and project manager who thrives in a flexible, independent work environment.

Key Focus Areas

🔹 Grant Writing & Management (40%)

Research, write, and submit grant proposals (6–8 per quarter)

Ensure compliance and timely reporting

Track submissions, awards, and renewals

🔹 Capacity Campaign Support (35%)

Develop campaign strategies and donor materials

Conduct prospect research (minimum 20 potential major donors)

Provide campaign progress reports and support board / leadership efforts

🔹 Impact Fundraiser Management (25%)

Plan and manage StepUp Durham’s annual Impact event (April 2026)

Secure sponsorships ($50,000 minimum)

Oversee event logistics, marketing, and donor follow-up

What You’ll Deliver

Successful grant proposals and reporting

Compelling campaign materials and progress tracking toward a $300,000 goal

A well-executed fundraising event with strong sponsorship support

What You Bring

3–5 years of proven success in grant writing (five- and six-figure awards)

Campaign and special event management experience

Strong writing, communication, and project management skills

Self-directed and detail-oriented work style

Nonprofit sector experience (workforce development / social services a plus)

Preferred

CFRE credential

Knowledge of Triangle-area philanthropic community

Salesforce or donor database experience

Compensation & Schedule

Contract type : 1099

Rate : $60–$70 / hour (approx. $2,400–$3,000 / month for 20 hrs / week)

Flexible scheduling and hybrid work arrangement

Initial 7-month contract, with potential to extend
