Overview

Install, inspect, maintain, and repair life safety systems, including fire alarm systems and emergency lighting, to ensure they are in proper working order to protect buildings and building occupants and comply with safety codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, perform diagnostics, and repair fire alarm systems according to specifications and blueprints.
• Install and wire emergency lighting systems, exit signs, and other relevant safety equipment according to specifications and blueprints.
• Perform basic programming for electronic components of fire alarm systems.
• Ensure systems comply with applicable life safety and building standards and codes, including NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
• Assist in inspecting and testing fire and life safety systems, including fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and emergency lighting units.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot various issues with life safety systems as they arise, and provide problem resolution for fire and life safety equipment, including but not limited to, fire alarm systems, control panels, emergency lighting units, and exit signs.
• Prioritize daily work orders and repairs.
• Estimate materials, labor, and equipment costs.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Work with other technicians, supervisors, and clients to ensure tasks and projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
• Respond to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
• Conduct routine building inspections when time permits, for compliance with fire and life safety codes and regulations.
• Identify best practices and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce fire and life safety hazards and improve safety on campus.
• Actively seek out and report any safety issues or concerns.
• Operate and work safely at all times.

• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
