Firefighter / Paramedic
The purpose of this classification is to administer appropriate emergency medical treatment to victims of accidents and other life-threatening situations, assist with firefighting tasks, maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles, and assist with emergency medical training and certification programs.
Examples of duties include leading and coordinating daily work activities, performing basic life rescue duties, providing advanced emergency medical care, communicating with medical personnel, maintaining readiness and preparation for emergency response, responding to emergency calls, maintaining knowledge of applicable laws, processing documentation, operating a personal computer, and utilizing various emergency medical and firefighting equipment.
Minimum qualifications require a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational or technical EMT / Paramedic training, and one year of experience in a related field. Knowledge, skill, abilities, and supplemental information include specific license or certification requirements, such as a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Firefighter I certification, as well as proficiency in performance of essential functions and comprehension of County or departmental policies.
