Position Overview
The Aggregate Estimator, is responsible for managing and overseeing the entire bidding process for multiple construction projects. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, strong analytical ability, and leadership skills to deliver accurate, competitive, and comprehensive estimates. The Aggregate Estimator plays a critical role in ensuring the profitability and success of projects by preparing bids that reflect precise costs, efficient resource planning, and effective risk management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Bid Management : Oversee the complete bidding process, from initial inquiry to final submission, including reviewing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and qualifying project opportunities.
- Project Analysis : Conduct detailed reviews of blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine scope, material requirements, and risks.
- Cost Estimation : Prepare accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead. Perform quantity takeoffs and apply appropriate unit costs using market rates and historical data.
- Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination : Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids / quotes from subcontractors and suppliers. Maintain strong professional relationships with vendors.
- Risk Analysis : Identify potential project risks such as cost overruns, delays, and market fluctuations; recommend contingency measures.
- Proposal Development : Create compelling bid packages in collaboration with project managers, leadership, and marketing teams for both public and private proposals.
- Team Leadership : Supervise, mentor, and delegate responsibilities to junior estimators and pre-construction staff while ensuring bid deadlines are consistently met.
- Performance Tracking : Compare estimated costs with actual project outcomes, track performance metrics, and update cost databases to improve future estimates.
- Client Relations : Present proposals to clients, explain cost rationales, and provide consultation throughout the bidding process.
- Technology Utilization : Apply estimating tools and software (HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, etc.) to ensure efficiency and accuracy in estimates.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of cost estimation experience in civil, commercial, residential, or aggregate-focused construction.Technical Knowledge : Strong knowledge of construction materials, aggregates, and industry standards. Understanding of applicable codes and regulations is preferred.Analytical Ability : Skilled in data analysis, quantity takeoffs, and risk evaluation with the ability to make informed, strategic decisions.Education : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client presentations, vendor negotiations, and cross-team collaboration.Organizational Skills : Proven ability to manage multiple bids / projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Leadership : Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.Benefits :
