Overview

Join to apply for the Designer 3-Transmission and Substation role at Pike Corporation

Provide substation physical design and technical support to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems for the projects, often working with other disciplines for solutions. This role includes both direct billable client work (project work) and project support. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline design work for projects and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development, project cost estimating, and may participate in business development efforts at some level.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimum supervision in the area of power delivery and grid analysis, provide engineering / technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities.
  • Produce thorough, timely, and accurate technical correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Continuously improve job-related technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understand and create substation physical arrangement drawing packages for construction.
  • Support the company\'s goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
  • Interact with customer's internal technical personnel as needed and maintain professional relationships with customers.
  • Monitor deliverables and schedules, present solutions to the client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Education and / or Experience : Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 2 to 4 years of experience with Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5 to 10 years of equivalent experience with no degree.
  • Experience : 5-7 years as a Substation Designer with the electrical industry in power delivery.
  • Certifications, Licenses, Registrations : N / A.
  • On-the-job Training : As needed for the job and employee development.
  • Language Skills : Able to read and interpret documents, write simple correspondence, and respond to inquiries from customers or the business community.
  • Mathematical Skills : Proficiency with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions; ability to compute rates and interpret spreadsheets; basic arithmetic with U.S. units.
  • Reasoning Ability : Interpret technical instructions and solve practical problems; manage multiple variables with limited standardization.
  • Other Skills : Understanding of basic engineering theories, independent work capability, and good written / spoken communication; ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Desirable Skills : AutoCAD; interpretation of specifications on engineering drawings; understanding of substation design practices; ability to design foundation, grading plans, and physical substation drawing packages for construction; cross-discipline coordination; ability to visit sites and adapt designs during construction; experience in the utility industry; knowledge of NEC and NESC.
