IMC is currently seeking to hire a Lactation Consultant Nurse (RN) on a PRN basis. Under the supervision of the Unit Director and with the authority of the Chief Nursing Officer, nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with our established philosophy. The Lactation Consultant Nurse specializes in breastfeeding and lactation support.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Graduate of a state-approved RN School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current Louisiana Licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
- Current Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC).
- BLS (CPR) certification upon hire.
- NRP certification within 6 months of employment.
- ACLS certification within 1 year post-hire for those providing post-operative care.
- PALS certification preferred within 1 year post-hire.
EXPERIENCE :
At least two years of nursing experience in labor & delivery or maternal-child care preferred.At least 1 year of experience in Lactation Consultation preferred.PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Support mothers and newborns with breastfeeding by providing assessment, management, education, instruction, and support.Perform comprehensive nursing assessments with a focus on mother-baby dyad and transition to parenthood to establish and prioritize diagnoses and create individualized, evidence-based care plans.Assess responses and adaptation to health problems of maternal, newborn, pediatric, and gynecologic patients, families, and significant others.Provide patient-centered care addressing physical, spiritual, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and educational needs in accordance with the plan of care, hospital policies, regulations, and professional guidelines.Recognize high-risk obstetrical conditions and emergencies to respond promptly and provide high-quality care.Stabilize high-risk maternal, newborn, or pediatric patients for transport as appropriate.Manage nursing care for obstetrical patients with common complications.Administer high-risk medications following protocols to promote optimal outcomes.Identify education needs and initiate appropriate education for patients and families.Provide referrals and information about community resources post-discharge.Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to enhance teamwork and safety.Delegate nursing tasks based on staff competency and knowledge.Participate in discharge planning and provide patient / family instruction.Maintain professional standards and participate in continuous education and quality improvement activities.Serve on committees and initiatives such as the Safe Birth Initiative and GIFT taskforce, including chart auditing and data input.Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate breastfeeding needs of infants.Provide prenatal, antenatal, and postpartum consultation and support.Assist Maternal Child staff with assessments, breastfeeding visits, and discharges as needed.J-18808-Ljbffr
