Summary

As the Operations Manager you will be responsible for building and expanding the Commercial Solar division through business development, estimating, and project management. You will support processes, workflow, and development of personnel within the group.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with the completion of all projects within the department in accordance with the Contract Documents and prevailing building codes and as directed by the Director of Commercial Solar.
  • Supervise the project management team whom has complete financial responsibility for the project's labor, material, equipment, and subcontract budgets. These budgets, at a minimum, must be achieved and as a rule; improved upon.
  • Provide monthly personnel feedback and mentoring.
  • Provide support to Project Managers and Project Engineers ensuring that Baker Electric's interpretation of the project specifications and contract documents are communicated and followed.
  • Provide support to Project Managers and Project Engineers to resolve conflicts with regard to drawings, specifications, general conditions, special conditions, clarifications or exclusions.
  • Facilitate and participate in the planning process to bridge the gap between project management and planning when needed. Support the Project Management team in understanding and implementation of the planning process.
  • Collaborate with business groups to understand and execute the Baker Way of utilizing processes, procedures, and software to aid in building the data comm division.
  • Conduct market analysis and partner with the Director of Commercial Solar and the Executive team to create a business plan for the group.
  • Strategize with the leadership team to create a list of clients that will fit with Baker Electric's vision and goals of the group.
  • Create and recognize selling opportunities by utilizing industry and market knowledge.
  • Identify manufacturers to create partnerships with.
  • Develop relationships with electrical contractors, construction managers, general contractors, architectural firms, industry influencers, and key strategic partners.
  • Participate in the hiring process for office staff.
  • Plan and direct activities and resources for implementing the entire project to ensure compliance with all contract documents and customer requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly financial reviews with the Executive Team.
  • Negotiate contracts and prepare estimates. Set objectives, timeline, budget, and performance standards. Track progress with clients, vendors, and construction teams.
  • Oversee project documentation and reporting. Close out projects and finalize documentation for invoicing, site walks, and deliverable packages.
  • Review the project team's change orders for accurate and supportable change request estimates as required by the Owner / Developer and when necessary negotiate the best possible pricing for Baker Electric.

Key 30, 60, 90 Day Accomplishments :

  • 30 Day : Become proficient in understanding Baker Electric, our processes and software.
  • 60 Day : Understand the group's business plan and begin building relationships with team.
  • 90 Day : Begin building relationships with vendors and estimating projects.
  • Experience, Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field a plus (Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, etc.), High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years working in the field performing commercial or industrial electrical installations.
  • 10+ years of Project Management experience. Estimating experience can qualify for up to 5 years of the required 10 years of Project Management experience.
  • 2+ years of experience directly leading a team of 5
  • Proficiency in MS Office : Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, ConstructJob, MS Project, or other related Construction Management software
  • Proficiency in Accubid or other related Construction Estimating software
  • PMP "Project Management Professional" or CPM "Certified Project Manager" a plus
