Overview :

Under the supervision of a licensed X-Ray Technologist, the X-Ray Supervisor, Manager / Director of Imaging Services and Radiologist, performs diagnostic radiology procedures. Responsible for performing radiographic imaging procedures while obtaining optimal image quality. Provides personalized care, recognizing the worth and dignity of each patient. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from neonate to geriatric.

Performs all duties and responsibilities consistent with Mercy’s mission, vision and values.

Job Description :

Ensures that all equipment operates according to safety standards and that all technologists are fully competent in the proper operations of all equipment. Performs all quality checks, as prescribed.

Performs exams utilizing proper positioning and technical standards.

Sets an example of quality patient care by exercising the highest standards at all times.

Charge appropriate patient supply items at end exam.

Prepares room and equipment and ensures work areas are kept clean, orderly and stocked.

Effectively triages STAT exams as needed, call reports and relay information to medical staff.

In a caring, compassionate manner, positions, lifts and moves patients as necessary to achieve proper imaging of area of interest and or function. Transports patients as needed.

Observes universal precautions consistently and adheres to all infection control guidelines.

Practices sterile technique in accordance with hospital policies

Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.

Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho / social, cultural, safety and other age-related factors.

Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs.

Interacts professionally with patient / family. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patientcare and performance improvement activities.

Educates patient and family regarding the procedure to be performed. Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient assuming the physical position for examination.

Assesses patients understanding of process and informed consent.

Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during the exam.

Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s guidelines.

Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.

Enters test data and patient information appropriately to maintain record of test results and images.

Has knowledge of hospital policies and functions of other departments.

Performs work duties as assigned.

Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards by shielding and collimation. Practices the ALARA standard of radiation protection.

Administers contrast media under the direct supervision of a Radiologist and within the guidelines of the Imaging Services policies.

Ensure all images are anatomically marked 100% of the time.

Ensure that all patient identification information is properly placed on each image.

Qualifications :

Education : High school graduate or equivalent. Currently enrolled in a nationally accredited School of Radiologic Technology.

Licensure :

Certification / Registration : Current BLS certification.

Other : Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge. Working conditions, mental and physical requirements : This individual must be capable of : manipulating X-ray equipment including mobile and other equipment; carrying cassettes; selecting and manipulating exposure factors, evaluating radiographs; lifting, moving and transporting patients’ continual standing and walking; recognizing emergency situations; adapting to fast pace daily workload; communicating effectively.
