General Description
Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor-Housing Solutions and Victim Services, the Victim Services Advocate provides direct services to victims of crime, provides community education on violence and conducts outreach activities to the assigned service area
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct services to victims of crime, including emergency needs, information and referral, counseling, accompaniment, home and hospital visits, and assistance in filing for CVB compensation.
- Prepares safety plan with each client.
- Provides individual and group counseling on the dynamics of domestic violence and victimization
- Offers immediate support to victims during and after a traumatic event.
- Assists victims in navigating the criminal justice system, including attending court hearings and
- providing updates on case status
- Determines the immediate needs of the crime victim and family – develop appropriate plan, involve appropriate agencies and facilitate the implementation of the plan.
- Determines the legal course to which the crime victim will be subject and provide or obtain appropriate assistance to the victim.
- Coordinates with First Step Team to ensure all referrals are assigned to case manager.
- Shares 24-hour on call responsibility with other First Step employees.
- Works with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other organizations to ensure comprehensive support for victims
- Develops and presents prevention and awareness efforts regarding violence and community response.
- Remains up to date on local, state and federal policies and / or legislation regarding victims of crime
- with a focus on intimate partner violence
- Maintains statistical database and case management files. Prepare monthly reports as required by funders.
- Participates in appropriate Catholic Charities staff meetings and in-service staff development opportunities. Represents Catholic Charities to the Community.
- Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements : Qualifications :
Associate’s degree in human services or related field.Empathy and compassion for others, especially individuals who have experienced trauma.Experience in assessing victim safety. Commitment to trauma informed, client centered approach in all interactions.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Relevant education an experience combination will be considered. Specific field experience is not required. We value your integrity and willingness to learn.Experience in collaboration with other county agencies to ensure victim’s needs are met.A combination of education and experience may be substituted at the discretion of the Executive Director.Relevant combination of education and experience will be considered

24 / 7 Emergency On-Call-shared responsibilityPreferred Skills :
Must be able to work non-traditional work hours (24 / 7 Emergency On-Call)Background checks may be required per program regulations.Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.
