Salamander Designs, Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of premium quality, highly customizable furniture for residential and commercial audio / video integration. Salamanders advanced furniture systems feature a high level of configurability and adaptability that allow users to best meet their present and future needs. Products are built to order in the USA and quick ship within days.

We continue to grow and are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to meet our growth opportunities.

Through the ingenuity of our people and efficient manufacturing techniques, we deliver furniture systems at a quality and efficiency that ensure customer satisfaction and success.

The Design Engineer is responsible for executing and managing a variety of tasks including Product design and development, customization of existing products. In addition, you will assist the Production team to develop assembly processes and troubleshoot any issues on the production floor.

This position is full-time in Office at our Bloomfield, CT facility.

Key Skills and experience :

  • Previous experience in mechanical drafting, manufacturing or other related fields
  • Software skills; SolidWorks CAD, AutoCAD, Microsoft
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • A strong mechanical ability and technical skill to assemble and create mechanical furniture assemblies and processes / instructions to build them.
  • Secondary Skills preferred :

Manufacturing Process engineering (SOPs)

  • Quality Control, Continuous improvement, Lean Manf, 5S
  • Estimating / quoting experience

    • Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Prepare Design documents - Solid models, manufacturing part prints and Assemblies in SolidWorks
  • Bills of materials (BOM) created for new or customized products
  • First Article Inspections (FAI) - Periodic quality audits of all parts and assemblies.
  • Review and modify designs to reduce production deficiencies
  • Manufacturing team support - Work closely with production supervisor to solve production issues caused by non-confirming materials.
  • Manufacturing engineering - Assist in development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for production floor for new products and custom jobs (pre-job brief).
  • Product Testing / Compliance assist in testing of products to meet specified criteria, ie. UL compliance
