As an Area Product Owner, you will work closely with software development teams to ensure client requirements are staffed and met.
The Area Product Owner is a key role in the Scrum framework, responsible for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Scrum Team.
This role involves a combination of strategic vision, tactical execution, and close collaboration with stakeholders and the development team(s).
Responsibilities for Single Scrum Teams :
- Defining the Product Vision : Clearly articulate the product vision and ensure it alignswith the overall business goals, particularly focusing on the unique needs and challengesof small businesses and innovation research.
- Managing the Product Backlog : Creating, maintaining, and prioritizing the productbacklog to ensure it reflects the most valuable work for the team, with a focus oninnovative solutions and small business requirements.
- Stakeholder Communication : Acting as the primary liaison between stakeholders andthe Scrum Team, ensuring that stakeholders’ needs and feedback are incorporated intothe product backlog.
Additionally, facilitating the communication of the Scrum Team’sfeedback to stakeholders to ensure a two-way dialogue and mutual understanding.
User Story Development :Writing clear and actionable user stories that define therequirements and acceptance criteria for the development team, with an emphasis oninnovation and small business impact.Sprint Planning : Collaborating with the Scrum Team during sprint planning to definesprint goals and select backlog items for the upcoming sprint.Review and Acceptance : Reviewing and accepting or rejecting work completed by theScrum Team to ensure it meets the defined acceptance criteria.Continuous Improvement : Participating in sprint retrospectives to identify areas forimprovement and ensure the team is continuously improving its processes andpractices.Additional Responsibilities :
In a Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) environment, the Area Product Owner's responsibilities expand to accommodate the complexities of collaborating with multiple teams working on a single product.Prioritization Over Clarification : Focusing more on prioritizing backlog items based onbusiness value, strategic importance, and customer needs, while collaborating withteams for clarification.Whole-Product Focus : Maintaining a holistic view of the product to ensure that allteams are aligned with the overall product vision and goals.Facilitating Direct Customer Interaction : Encouraging and facilitating direct interactionsbetween development teams and customers / users to foster better understanding andempathy.QualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred, or 5 years of equivalent experience5 years of experience in project or product management desiredExperience working with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholdercommunication AFLDP Powered by JazzHR
