Job Purpose

The Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) at Pathway to Recovery is essential in providing specialized, client-centered treatment services to individuals dealing with opioid use disorders. By incorporating the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria and a strong focus on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), this role is pivotal in supporting clients through their recovery journey with both pharmacological and therapeutic interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments using ASAM criteria to determine appropriate levels of care, with a particular focus on suitability for MAT as part of the individual's treatment plan.
• Deliver individual counseling and group therapy sessions, integrating MAT education and support, and tailoring interventions to enhance recovery outcomes for clients with opioid use disorders.
• Collaborate closely with medical staff to coordinate MAT, ensuring seamless integration of medication management with counseling and behavioral therapies in accordance with ASAM standards.
• Develop, monitor, and adjust treatment plans in partnership with clients, focusing on achieving and maintaining recovery goals, with an emphasis on the effective use of MAT within a comprehensive treatment approach.
• Provide education to clients and their families about opioid use disorder and MAT, dispelling myths and reducing stigma associated with medication-assisted recovery.
• Maintain detailed and timely documentation of treatment services, MAT progress, and client responses, adhering to ASAM and regulatory documentation standards.
• Stay abreast of advancements in MAT, including new medications, dosing strategies, and evidence-based practices for treating opioid use disorders, to continually enhance care delivery.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to the cohesive delivery of integrated care plans for clients in the OTP.
