Description :
Unit has a fast track with 3 beds.
The Emergency Room has a total of 14 beds.
3 of those beds are used as fast track, with 2 for internal holding.
There are 2 trauma / code bays available.
One seclusion room is designated for behavioral health.
Typically, this room holds 4 individuals.
It is common to hold pediatric behavioral health patients for 4-5 days.
Some patients can exhibit aggressive behavior.
The unit sees 220-250 patient visits per day.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 4 : 10.
The electronic medical record system is Cerner Power Chart.
Charge nurses typically do not take patients.
Nurse aides and paramedics are available.
There are 2 security personnel on-site 24 / 7.
Weekend work is required every other weekend.
Major and minor holidays are also required.
The RN scrubs are blue and nurse aides wear green.
There are 8 beds equipped with monitors.
Ventilator support is available.
The department has ED physicians and mid-level providers.
Typically, there is 1 physician from 6 am to 6 pm and another from 6 pm to 6 am.
4-5 physician assistants work staggered hours.
Lab draws are completed in collaboration with phlebotomy.
There is no dedicated IV team.
Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7.
Pharmacy services are in-house until midnight, with remote support overnight.
The facility uses an Omnicell dispensing system.
Shifts follow a 12-hour format, including variations starting at different times throughout the day and night.
Floating between units is not required.
New hires will complete specific floor orientation training.
Common diagnoses include a 70% pediatric population, sepsis, behavioral health issues, alcohol-related conditions, and care for underserved patients.
The area reports a high incidence of crime and may present a stressful working environment.
Staff are expected to be prepared for potential disaster management situations.
Good situational awareness skills are necessary.
The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment.
Cerner experience is required, but a BSN is not mandatory.
Trauma care is available within the acute care setting.
