Job Description

The Orbital Analyst will support the Advanced Tracking & Launch Analysis System (ATLAS) at Vandenberg Space Force Base. Responsibilities include satellite space situational awareness (SSA) activities, orbit determination, satellite characterization, and ensuring ATLAS operational integrity. The role requires coordinating with engineering teams, troubleshooting system issues, and providing on-call support when needed.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct satellite SSA activities as an orbital analyst, operating orbit determination and satellite characterization systems using radar, passive RF, optical, and other data sources.
  • Support ATLAS users in performing ATLAS functions and maintain awareness of ATLAS operations and status.
  • Identify system issues that impede ATLAS operations or user functions and coordinate resolution with key stakeholders.
  • Perform root cause analysis for integrated system issues impacting ATLAS, applying cross-system expertise.
  • Coordinate with the ATLAS System Operations (SysOps) team and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) on trouble tickets and operational issues to ensure alignment with ATLAS program priorities.
  • Provide on-call (4-hour recall) support for ATLAS issues, assessing operational impact to inform key government decisions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 9 years of related experience; graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or a minimum of 13 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active TS / SCI clearance required.
  • Experience with spacecraft operations / orbit analysis.
  • Knowledge of ephemeris and orbit determination.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CAVENet and Astrodynamic Support Workstation (ASW).
  • Experience with SPADOC.
  • Experience with STK / Astrogator and Astrodynamics Standards.
  • Experience with space domain awareness missions.
  • Benefits

    Salary range : $125,000 – $232,000. L3Harris offers health and disability insurance, a 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, an employee assistance program, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. Benefit programs may vary with date of hire, schedule type, and collective bargaining agreements.
