Public Works Street Maintenance Operator
Performs work involving the operation of trucks and / or specialized equipment used in the Public Works Division. The employee performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. - Drives and operates specialized equipment used in the Division
- Independently performs assigned work specific to this Division within the City limits
- Makes minor adjustments to and participates in the cleaning and servicing of equipment utilized.
- Provides on-the-job training to lower level personnel.
- May operate more complex equipment for training and relief purposes.
- The employee may refer to route maps but generally receives work assignments in the form of oral instructions which are specific and simple. Judgment and decision making are limited to determining the technique or method of action in completing a particular task. The supervisor is consulted when existing guidelines do not adequately cover a situation.
- The employee performs a limited to moderate number of tasks using some judgments and decision making based on knowledge and experience to determine course of action or technique to use. Instructions usually are of moderate difficulty and the employee follows established procedures.
- May be called upon to direct the work of other employees and crew members.
- The employee normally receives and instructions but may receive written instructions. Methods of accomplishing assignments are determined by established procedures. Deadlines and priorities are determined by the supervisor. The employee's work progress, accuracy and completeness are monitored routinely. The employee is also expected to keep the supervisor informed of work progress.
- Most contacts are with fellow employees and supervisors although the employee may have incidental contact with the general public while working at job sites.
- The employee's contact with the general public involves giving out routine factual information or responding to routine inquiry
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must have high school diploma / GEDValid commercial operator's license required at time of placement. Must have driving record sufficient for coverage by City's auto liability carrier.Skill in the operation of heavy equipment / vehicles and other equipment used within the division.This knowledge and skill would be gained by completion of at least six (6) months of experience in driving trucks or operating light equipment OR any combination of education and experience leading to the same level of knowledge and skill.Physical & Work Environment
