Foster and Transport Coordinator - PART TIME
Position Overview :
Facilitate the transport for, or adoption process of, animals in foster care; ensure the appropriate placement of pets in our care. Collaborate with the Foster and Transport team, along with other shelter departments, to enhance operational efficiency and support animal welfare initiatives.
Supervision Received :
- Foster and Transport Manager
- Shelter Manager
- Some direction from the Shelter Director
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
Serve as a point of contact with foster homes, rescue groups, and partner facilities through regular phone and email communicationCollaborate with the Behavior and Medical Teams to assess animals for foster placement and transport eligibilityStock supplies on a weekly basis, and frequent lifting, loading, and unloading of heavy itemsRescue and Transport Coordination :
Ensure animals accepted and scheduled for rescue are fully vaccinated, spayed / neutered, and meet all medical / temperament requirements of the receiving partner.Coordinate transport logistics, including required paperwork, scheduling, and communication with partners.Oversee transfers to ensure animals are transported in clean, comfortable carriers and have been fed, watered, and allowed a bathroom break prior to departure.Enter all transfer-related information accurately into our shelter management systems.Foster Program Support :
Create photos, videos, and bios for foster animal recordsPromote foster animals for involvement in adoption and community eventsAttend foster-focused events as needed.Adoption Coordination for Foster Animals :
Process adoption applications for animals in foster care using shelter technology systemsCoordinate meet-and-greets between adopters and foster animalsEnsure new adopters receive complete medical and behavioral recordsGeneral :
Perform other duties as assigned by the Foster and Transport Manager, Shelter Manager, or Shelter DirectorRequired :
High school diploma or GEDValid driver’s license or IDPhysical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform duties requiring standing, bending, and extended activityStrong organizational skillsMulti-tasking skills to coordinate various activities simultaneouslyExcellent customer service and interpersonal skillsStrong, professional communication and writing skillsProficiency in basic computer skills, including email, data entry, and report preparationAvailability to work weekends, evenings, and special events as scheduledPreferred :
Minimum 2 years’ experience in an animal care facility or related settingAbility to safely handle a variety of animal breeds and speciesWorking knowledge of basic animal care, handling, and welfare practicesExperience with shelter management software (e.g., PetPoint)Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishWillingness and ability to drive long distances for animal transport
