Maintenance Superintendent

The Park District is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Superintendent in the Public Works Admin #2 Department of the Operations Division. This on-site position will be headquartered at the Pacheco Corp Yard. The Maintenance Superintendent serves as a member of the Park District's management team and has responsibility for providing expert leadership and consultation related to the maintenance and construction of Park infrastructure including paved roads, gravel roads, ranch roads, fire roads, soft surface trails, culverts, bridges, and crossings. The superintendent manages field crews, schedules maintenance operations, inspects infrastructure conditions, and coordinates with engineers, contractors, and environmental specialists to meet project goals and regulatory standards.

  • What You'll Be Doing :

    Under general direction, plans, organizes and implements the objectives, and administrative and operational activities of one or more of the following maintenance programs : building, structures, and utilities maintenance, roads and trails construction and maintenance, sanitation and recycling, and pavement management; develops program standards; supervises and evaluates program and operational staff; ensures compliance with regulatory agency and Park District requirements; and performs related duties as assigned.

    Ideal Candidate :

  • Strong supervisory and leadership experience in the field of Public Works, Road Maintenance, Trail Construction, Pedestrian Infrastructure Maintenance and Heavy Equipment Operation
  • Skilled in scheduling maintenance, managing budgets, prioritizing projects, and coordinating resources effectively
  • Experience providing leadership to a diverse organization, fostering positive working relationships, and a commitment to public service
  • Experience interpreting and constructing plans related to civil construction
  • Proficient in road construction, stream restoration, grading, trail maintenance, culvert replacements, erosion control, drainage systems, etc.
  • Knowledgeable about sustainable practices, soil conservation, and habitat protection to minimize environmental impacts
  • Working knowledge of interpreting regulatory requirements and ensuring building and operational compliance
  • Essential Functions :

  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the assigned program, or programs, within the Maintenance Department;
  • Performs or directs, through subordinate first line supervisors, all functions related to the assessment, prioritization, scheduling, monitoring, work standards, and performance of maintenance work on the Park District's extensive inventory of pumps, restrooms, residences, kiosks, public buildings, office spaces, and their electrical and plumbing systems;
  • Administers and monitors the implementation of the Park District's ADA Transition Plan; manages the Park District's water utilities maintenance program, setting up priorities, and directing future upgrades to water systems;
  • Inspects and manages the maintenance of the Park District's inventory of residences;
  • Maintains records;
  • Manages and directs the Park District's road, trails, and ponds construction and maintenance programs;
  • Provides excavating, grading, paving, erosion control, and drainage construction and maintenance for the Park District's lands and network of culverts, parking lots, trails, roads, and levees;
  • Manages and directs the Park District's sanitation and recycling unit which coordinates recycling and waste reduction programs throughout the Park District;
  • Performs required maintenance and operates sanitation tankers to collect and dispose of sewage and waste from the Park District's extensive and dispersed network of chemical toilets, septic systems, and holding tanks;
  • Provides temporary sanitary facilities for numerous Park District special events and activities;
  • Conducts analysis and research;
  • Determines in-house capabilities and contracts for specialized and / or major work requests;
  • Develops contracts, timelines, deliverables, publications, and / or policies;
  • Assures that all assigned functions are performed consistent with federal, state, and / or local laws, regulations, and codes;
  • Assures that senior management policy, programs, goals, objectives, and guidelines are understood and met;
  • Resolves internal operational problems and coordinates with other Park District staff in resolving broader problems and issues;
  • Exercises second level supervision over a workforce of primarily skilled trades employees and directly over a moderate number of contractors;
  • Performs representational duties related to assigned programs with regulatory agencies, e.g., city and county building and environmental health departments;
  • Assures that water treatment data is collected and supplied to Park District managers for reports to regulatory agencies;
  • Assures that Park District operational and financial interests receive maximum attention and decisions are consistent with overall Park District goals and objectives;
  • Responds to maintenance emergencies Park District-wide through a combination of Park District Dispatch and notification systems;
  • Supervises, and evaluates, assigned staff consisting of professional, technical, support staff, and / or volunteers / interns, as well as consultants and contractors;
  • Develops program standards, goals and objectives in line with the Park District's mission, vision and master plan;
  • Makes recommendations concerning programmatic policies and procedures;
  • Ensures compliance with established laws, regulation, policies, and procedures;
  • Develops and administers the budget for assigned program(s) and projects;
  • May assist in the preparation of the department's annual budget;
  • Prepares and analyzes complex reports;
  • Maintains records;
  • Conducts analysis and research;
  • Serves as technical resource to Park District departments / divisions;
  • Develops contracts, timelines, deliverables, publications, and / or policies;
  • Prepares and reviews a variety of written reports and correspondence;
  • Serves as a Park District representative to outside agencies, organizations, contractors and the public;
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on internal committees, work groups, and task forces;
  • May present to, or prepare material for, the General Manager and / or Board of Directors;
  • Performs related duties as assigned
