Network and Systems Administrator

Overview : Position Name : Network and Systems Administrator Location : Downtown Baltimore, Maryland Hours : 8 – 5 pm (one hour lunch), after hours and weekends as required Employment Status : FULL TIME Qualifications : Equivalent related experience or a Bachelor’s degree required Network certifications 2 - 5 years of experience Requirements : Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory and other systems administration products and tools Experience with networking hardware (hubs, routers and switches) and network management software applications Experience with PCs, printers and other peripherals Experience with Microsoft Azure is a plus Experience with IVR technology is also a plus Must be able to multi-task effectively Possess excellent customer service and troubleshooting skills Possess excellent oral and written communication skills Must also be able to pass a security background check and pass a for-cause and pre-employment drug test. Responsibilities : Monitor, administer, support and optimize performance of the network and systems, maintain continuity of daily business operations (system access time, response time, disk space utilization and security to include virus awareness and safeguards) as well as provide network and system maintenance. Troubleshoot and resolve all failures, defects, systems, connectivity and configuration problems arising out of network, hardware and software. Escalate issues to application, hardware and networking experts when necessary. Plan, organize, assign, direct and review programs to maintain a reliable network and systems without prolonged outages or unresolved problems. Guide the staff in evaluating the analyses performed on system reliability; research industry standards; and provide support and technical guidance to staff in all areas of installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and administration of systems. Evaluate on a daily basis the ongoing problems and suggest resolutions to ensure system performance optimization. Evaluate, specify and recommend network hardware and software for future upgrades and technical advances and review plans to install, test, and maintain network hardware and software. Develop documentation and provide technical assistance to Operations and System Analysts on the systems communications issues. Train and support alternate staff to administer and support the network and systems when the primary network and systems administrator may not be available. Monitor and analyze the storage area network (SAN), local area network (LAN), desktop computer systems, and peripheral equipment (printers, scanners, modems, etc.). Review client problems related to hardware and software; ensure systems operate on a reliable basis and conform to standards. Provide monthly network and systems administrative reports and attend weekly network and systems administrative review meetings with the Project Manager. Evaluate the performance of all levels of subordinate staff and train them in maintaining systems. Correct operational deficiencies of staff. Correct deviations and deficiencies in performance. Suggestion of test cases and test scenarios. Make recommendations for infrastructure improvements. Specify, recommend and evaluate training courses for staff. Provide integration support between systems and applications. Provide installation, update and printing support for the applications over the network. Troubleshoot application issues. Download new application versions. Deploy drops to workstations. Install drops on Citrix servers. Assist development team as needed. Assist server manager with maintenance. Create, administer and maintain User accounts, security levels and permissions or roles. Assist users signing onto the systems. Provide end-user training and support Use existing knowledge to provide a seamless continuance of network and systems administrator services.
