Are you seeking to diversify your skills in CAD and use your energy and ideas towards making a difference in statewide initiatives for the State of Iowa Transportation system? Look no further!! Come be part of a dynamic team here at the Iowa DOT! The Bridges and Structures Bureau is seeking to hire aBridge Design Technician Specialist (Design Technician Specialist) who will be an essential part of the Bridge Project Development team in our Preliminary Design Unit. This position will develop sound design and CAD detailing principles for the Bridges and Structures Bureau (BSB) and for consulting agencies that are working for the Department. Other duties include :

Develop preliminary bridge and culvert plans using Bentley CONNECT software.

Provide guidance and implementation for the integration of 3D CONNECT design in the Bridge Bureau.

Assist Preliminary Bridge in integrating design and survey information for the development of plans.

Perform hydraulic design of pipe culverts and box culverts and use available hydraulic computer programs.

Assist and train new employees in developing preliminary design plans for pipe and box culverts.

Complete special assignments, such as complex cost estimates, drainage investigations, culvert failures, or drainage complaints.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification :

Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent), and experience equal to eight years of full-time work in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way.

All of the following (a and b) :

a. Six years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way; and

b. A total of two years of education and / or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, right of way, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection.

• All of the following (a and b) :

a. Six years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, or right of way; and

b. A total of two years of education and / or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of an accredited vocational program in engineering technology, design drafting, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, construction inspection, or cartography equals two years of full-time experience in design drafting, cartography, photogrammetry, right of way, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, or construction inspection.
