The Senior Virtualization Administrator is responsible for the management, optimization, and evolution of the agency’s enterprise virtualized infrastructure.
This role ensures high availability, performance, and security across on-premises and cloud environments, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Azure, and other CSP-hosted platforms.
The position also provides leadership in system architecture, automation, and emerging virtualization technologies, while mentoring junior administrators.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, Build, and Implementation Lead the design, deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of virtualized environments across VMware, AWS, and Microsoft Azure platforms.
- Upgrades and Migrations Direct major system upgrades, migrations, and architectural improvements to enhance performance and scalability.
- Operations and Optimization Monitor and tune performance of virtual environments to ensure efficient resource utilization and minimal downtime.
- Complex Troubleshooting Diagnose and resolve advanced issues related to VM performance, connectivity, and virtualization security.
- Backup & Recovery Implement and manage advanced backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions for virtual infrastructures.
- Security Compliance Apply patches, updates, and required security configurations to protect virtualized environments from vulnerabilities.
- Documentation Maintain detailed and comprehensive documentation of virtualization architectures, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaboration Work cross-functionally with systems, cloud, and network teams to integrate virtualization solutions with enterprise IT services.
- Mentorship & Leadership Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior virtualization staff and other IT personnel.
- Innovation & Research Evaluate, pilot, and recommend emerging virtualization technologies to improve efficiency and mission delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Education :Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.Experience : 5–7+ years of virtualization administration experience, with leadership in VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.Technical Expertise : VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter Microsoft Azure virtualization and automation tools (Azure CLI, Azure DevOps, Azure Automation) PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools integrated into CI / CD pipelinesPreferred Certifications : VMware Certified Professional (VCP) Microsoft Certified : Azure Administrator Associate Other Requirements Must pass background investigation.Must be a U.S.Citizen.
