Advanced Manufacturing Buyer

As a Buyer for Advanced Manufacturing (AM), you will be responsible for purchasing standard to complex equipment and materials. The Buyer may act as lead on small Projects (Projects with a Total Installed Cost of $50M, or less) while using best practices and knowledge of requirements to solve basic problems and handle day-to-day Purchasing tasks with minimal guidance and direction. The Buyer will support our team working from our Greenville, SC office.

Leverage your passion and experience as you perform procurement transactions associated with purchasing materials / equipment as assigned. The Buyer demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of procurement concepts, principles and practices, and the techniques of ensuring task completion. They completely understand the role of procurement and its integration with other project functions, accomplishes value-added expectations, and performs assignments in accordance with established policies and procedures.

The Buyer reports directly to the Manager of Procurement Services (MOPS) for the office which they are assigned or to the Director of Supply Management, AM. While supporting Jacobs' Projects, the Buyer will report indirectly to the assigned Project Procurement Manager (PPM) or Project Manager.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • As a Purchasing Lead, support upfront Procurement planning activities such as providing input into the Supply Management Execution Plan (SMEP), establishing Purchasing Strategies, and developing project-specific templates, reports and tools
  • As a Purchasing Lead, provide general guidance to purchasing technicians and associate buyers who may be assigned to the Project. This typically includes providing on-the-job training, offering support and guidance, performing supply management systems instruction, and managing package assignments.
  • As a Purchasing Lead, use critical thinking and problem solving to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Project's Procurement efforts
  • Purchasing assignments typically will consist of standard purchases of more complex or critical materials and equipment
  • Utilizes established policies, procedures, systems, and tools
  • Coordinates the procurement of goods and administers Purchase Orders (POs) and change orders (modifications) to accomplish project or group objectives and obligations
  • Reviews PO-related invoices and ensures that invoices are approved in accordance with terms and conditions agreed within the purchase order
  • Evaluates facts surrounding purchase order-related problem areas and applies remedies to resolve it
  • Maintains purchasing documentation in a repository
  • Identifies and advises management of purchase order-related risks
  • Prepares bidder lists, qualifies bidders, prepares requests for quotation, and conducts bid evaluations
  • Prepares proposal deliverables, such as pricing of materials
  • Recommends source selections, plans and leads purchase order negotiations
  • May serve as the lead buyer or purchasing coordinator on projects or tasks
  • Helps stakeholders in understanding the overall Procurement process
  • Works under minimal supervision. No direct reports. Supervises the work of less senior buyers and procurement support personnel who assist with the purchasing activities
  • Coordinates with project or departmental personnel in performance of the purchasing activities

Here's what you'll need :

  • Bachelor's degree in a business, construction, supply chain, or operations management, or equivalent project experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in capital equipment purchasing.
  • 2-5 years of experience in Specialized Manufacturing, Data Centers, Biopharmaceutical / Life Science Manufacturing Projects is preferred.
  • Experience using MS Office tools, including intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, team environment

    The base salary range for this position is $73,300.00 to $96,150.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
